4 Tips to Prevent Online Dating Burnout
Posted by Debra Kunz on 22 Oct 2013 . Filed under: Dating Tips
Online dating is an incredible way to meet new men, and maybe even your Mr. Right. It can also be a time consuming energy drain if you aren’t sure how to manage the process. A few tips will help you prevent online dating burnout and keep you focused on finding your Mr. Right.
Expectations
Online dating can be overwhelming, mostly because of the sheer volume of people available to choose from and how to keep up with it all. Just like meeting a man anywhere else, there will be those you would want to talk to, and those you wouldn’t. There will be some you think are creepy, and some you think are dreamy. There will be some who aren’t interested in you, and some you aren’t interested in. The key is to have realistic expectations and accept that not everyone is a match, from your perspective or his, while knowing that the bigger key is to give the guy who has some potential a chance!
Do Not Listen to the Online Dating Naysayers
Despite its growing use, popularity and success, online dating can still have a stigma attached to it. Some people in your life may still think you’re desperate if you choose to try a new way to meet someone. I suggest you promptly ignore whoever has that attitude, especially if they are single and don’t want to be, yet refuse to try anything to change that.
Take a Break
When you stop having fun, you are in danger of online dating burnout and you should take a break. There’s a big difference between giving up and taking a break. Giving up means you’ve surrendered to the self-imposed belief that your Mr. Right doesn’t exist. That exasperated sigh might have tipped me off. Don’t get so focused on the online format that you forget the possibility of meeting him some other way in your life. Online dating is a great way to add to your opportunities, but it doesn’t exclude all of the other options!
